Noosa Real Estate

By Medha Ruby

Wilson, in Somerset Maugham’s The Lotos Eater, goes to Capri, falls in love with the place, and decides to come back and stay forever. The story ends tragically, a terrible mismatch between a heavenly place and a grotesque tragedy.

The fact is, when one thinks of the ocean, one has a particular vision of the ocean. Perhaps it is a shell encrusted beach. Or maybe it is sandy. Perhaps it is yellow sand. Perhaps it is white sand. Perhaps it is a rocky beach, or you might sit on a rocky cove where the waves lap your feet as you look out to sea.

Yet somehow, the one idea of ocean that is imprinted in the minds of most is that of the tropical sandy beach, with warm and clear sun, yellow sand and turquoise waters, lots of palm or coconut trees lining the beaches, and complete holiday atmosphere.

Perhaps the Bahamas. Perhaps the Caribbean. Perhaps Noosa.

Noosa is an enchanting tourist town straight from a Fairy Tale or the Lonely Planet recommended list. With an endearing cultural heritage, this paradise on the Queensland coast satisfies the adventurous and romantic, the fun seeker as well as the trivia collector.

Famous for its food, wine, cultural fests, its ravishing beaches, clear weather and its endearing and welcoming populace, Noosa experience is perhaps most comprehensively symbolized in the May Fiesta, a month-long festival of fun, song, food, literature, cabaret, cocktails and much more.

The people of Noosa and its visitors to know how to enjoy life, and how to celebrate its spirit. The most fabulous aspect of Noosa is these festivals that run throughout the year are as much for the local citizens as they are for the tourists.

Reason enough why the tourists long to come back to its wonderful beaches and bustling streets time after time. They feel at home, they feel welcomed. Reason why some, like Wilson of Capri, stay around. Reason why the township has risen from being a small sleepy fishing village into a celebrated place in the Southern Hemisphere.

In fact the May Fiesta begins much before May – the Rock’n’Tewantin, a ten-day dance and Rock extravaganza that draws a large crowd of participants and revelers kicks off festivities.

The Eumundi Markets, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, is held every week – in and out of May, come rain or shine – and brings the best of arts and crafts, designs, trivia, local produce and fun stuff.

The Riverhouse Thai Banquet is poised to be a huge event with some exotic concoctions presenting some world class gastronomic delights. The Peregian Markets and Music present oceanside markets and live music in the evening. Master Glass Blower Sean O’Donoghue will also present his glass sculpting demonstrations.

The coffee festival will be held with the local produce and live coffee roasting festivals, with coffee and espresso appreciation events. Moonlight nightrides are a wonderful way to get a different view of Noosa, when the creatures of the night come out during full moon nights.

A National One Act Playwrighting Festival attracts talents from around Australia and the Commonwealth. The Food and Wine festivals bring out the culinary delights of Noosa in a consummating fare of local produce and exotic preparations. The Cooroora Woodworkers Association feature Woodwork demonstrations highlighting local art forms. Indigenous artists present their ceremonies in the Desert Rain Gallery in Tewantin.

The Rotary Cabaret is a fundraising event featuring live music and performance. The Golf Challenge is an open competition with 18 holes where anyone can join in. The Noosa Journal Riverfest Regatta features fishing trips, local and live music, boat shows and ferry races.

The Adventure Healing Retreat presents a a 5-day kayaking trip to help release past issues and live life with full zest. The Noosa Blue Water Swim features different swim categories for different participants where the whole town and many competitors join in. In the Noosa Harbour Fiesta you can enjoy the Noosa life Latin American style with salsa, pinata and live music.

The Sunshine Coast Blues Festival is another fundraiser that attracts top local and Brisbane artists. The May Fiesta, thus, is a month long enchantment for the voluptuary and the cultured, the fun-loving and the thoughtful, the lazy and the spirited. So, instead of spending another lazy summer up north, it makes more sense to jump right into the action.

Noosa is calling, where are you ?
